Trailer Hitch Question
#1
Just wondering... When buying the hitch for my 2006 truck, if I'm only installing the 4 pin harness, can I get by with just ordering the "Hitch Wiring Tow Harness" or do I still need the relays for the passenger side.... Hope the picture works... lol

Thanks...

I would use the factory harness with relays. I have read of some having light issues after tapping into the rear wires. Also, without the factory hitch, you won't be able to directly bolt the harness plug to your truck. Many have put the plug through the bumper.  I used a 2 1/8" steel capable hole saw and, with a little modification to the back plug housing, put it in the bumper.

It's done....   Nine years of Canadian winters crud build up, made a very easy job, a lot more difficult than it should have... Longest time was taken chasing the threads, so I could mount the hitch.. Lots of fiddling & lots of penetrating oil... Once that was done, everything else went very smooth.. Using the floor jack to lift the hitch into position (as seen in some of the photos on this site) was a very good idea...

Word of advice.. If you haven't got a hitch at this time, but "may" someday put one on, get 6 M12 bolts & insert them in the holes... (especially if you live where it snows, & rust may form)

Thanks...

I can imagine the thread being corroded. I worked in a body shop in the south in the 80s and had issues getting bumper bolts on older cars. Then add the corrosive nature of the materials used to clear snow!

Glad to hear you got it worked out.
