30 second exposures; I don't have a trigger for my Sony Nex-5 yet and didn't want to induce camera shake by holding the shutter button down manually.

Been a while...

Went out birding yesterday for the first time, bit too slow paced for my liking as a regular activity.

Went to the USGP last month and spent some time before festivities started to roam Austin a bit. Went back to Austin again this month on Dell's dime for their conference and explored the city a bit more.

Looked like a lot of fun. Was that you in the onboard shots? The speed looked deceptive in the video. It looked like everyone was motoring along at a not too fast speed, yet they were spinning out. I guess that was the speed of the recorder.

Yep, all the first person footage was from my helmet during qualifying (I accidentally turned off the camera pre-race while adjusting it). Speed was pretty good, except when they slowed down unexpectedly (I greatly dislike electric karts now).

I was wondering about racing carts indoors and exhaust fumes. The fumes can be terrible. There is an indoor cart track we go to when in Japan that has gas powered carts. The air quality gets pretty bad after a while. It would never be allowed here in the US without proper ventilation. But we have a blast anyway. I guess you can say we get gassed.

These karts were electric so no fumes; but also you don't get the sound of the engines which is half the fun! Also they weren't consistent on speed due to uneven charging. Go Kart Racer out in San Jose uses Sodi RX7 karts and has ventilation, so much more fun.

Great shots once again. Is the first one tripod with open shutter timed exposure? And how do you trigger the shutter with ought shaking the camera?

The first and third are both 3 shot HDRs with the camera on tripod. I've got a wired remote that I use for shutter release (along with intervalometer and other tasks) when wanting the camera to be steady.

The real life Tow Mater (of Disney|Pixar Cars fame) resides alongside Route 66 in Galena, Kansas

The only remaining 'Marsh Arch' bridge, called the Rainbow Bridge due to it's style, along Historic Route 66 (now a county road) on the way to Baxter Springs, Kansas
[Image: p1446414078-4.jpg]

Who would have ever guessed that Oklahoma would be ahead of the game? Well for a time in the 1920s they were when they paved this section (the so-called 'Ribbon Road') of road way near Miami, Oklahoma that would go on to become part of Route 66. In an attempt to save money while paving 2,400 miles of road, the decision was made to make the road 9 feet wide.

I traveled a short stretch of Route 66 in OK. I would like to make a long trip of it some day. Thanks for the pics.

I live a little over a mile from route 66 where it runs through Bethany so I travel on it often. They are planning to put a route 66 sign and billboard museum in Bethany if everything works out right.

I think somewhere near Tulsa, OK.

Good photos mdawg. Here is a clip on the sign and billboard museum in Bethany. Be sure to watch the video. We have an old route 66 bridge as you leave Bethany going west. It is nice to get to drive on route 66 on a regular basis.
